2007 Concert

On November 4, 2007, Laurie performed with some of the other musicians on this site. The concert was at at Trinity Presbyterian Church in Travelers Rest, South Carolina. Sponsored by Carolina First, this event was one of three concerts on the Trinity Presbyterian Concert Series. Laurie has also played at the Westin Hotel in Greenville.

Biography

Laurie Gentry grew up in Miami, Florida. She attended Stetson University studying with the famous English flutist, Geoffrey Gilbert. After receiving a degree in Music Education, she taught elementary music on the West Coast of Florida for three years, while continuing to study with Mr. Gilbert. After elementary music Laurie became a full time church musician, and began work on her Masters at the University of South Florida. She studied with Martha Rearick and received her Masters of Music in 1985. Soon after, she relocated to South Carolina and began to teach middle school band and strings in the public schools.

Although busy during the day teaching instrumental music, weekends through the years were busy performing with Greenville Little Theater, Greenville Children's Theater, Greenville Symphony, Anderson GAMAC Orchestra, Furman Summer Civic Band, Carolina Pops Orchestra and numerous weddings. As a member of the Appalachian/Celtic group, Windshear, Laurie has performed for festivals, contra-dancing, recitals and is part of Windshear's performance CD.

Never tiring of learning, Laurie continues summer study with flute master classes at Wildacres and three summers of a Greenville class taught by Mrs. Patricia Harper faculty member of Connecticut College. Laurie is again teaching elementary music and enjoying freelancing throughout the upstate.
